You don’t have to be a muscle-bound meathead from the 80s to be an action star anymore (though it doesn’t hurt) and you certainly don’t have to be young anymore. Here are some great action stars that can still bring it, even though they are no longer spring chickens.

8 Arnold Schwarzenegger

After years of being tied up in politics, Arnold is back in shape and back in action. Expect lots of past franchise revivals.

Age: 65

Highlights: The Terminator movies, the Conan movies, Predator

Coming Up: The Legend of Conan, Triplets (sequel to Twins), Terminator 5 (working title)

7 Sylvester Stallone

The “Italian Stallion” always stays insanely fit (okay, except for his role in Cop Land) and is coming up with cool projects whether it be endless Expendables sequels, bringing his old characters back for new films or coming out with this ridiculous, yet awesome pen.

Age: 66

Highlights: The Rambo movies, the Rocky movies, Cliffhanger, Judge Dredd, The Expendables movies

Coming Up: The Tomb (prison break-out flick with Arnold Schwarzenegger)

6 Jean Claude Van Damme

Unbeknownst to most, JCVD has enjoyed a successful movie career through the present day. Though he doesn’t owe that to Hollywood blockbusters, his career has been strong via films that have been released in foreign countries, surprisingly good straight-to-DVD movies and the critically acclaimed semi-autobiographical comedy action crime drama, JCVD.

Age: 52

Highlights: The Universal Soldier movies, Bloodsport

Coming Up: Welcome to the Jungle (comedy), Enemies Closer (thriller)

5 Liam Neeson

As a relatively new action star on the scene, Liam Neeson’s resume may be short, and he may be nearing senior citizen status, but you’d better believe his future is bright.

Age: 60

Highlights: The Taken movies, The Grey, Batman Begins

Coming Up: A Walk Among the Tombstones (thriller), Run All Night (action), and almost definitely another Taken film

4 Bruce Willis

Though he is extraordinarily bald, Bruce Willis will always be the wise-cracking cowboy of the action world.

Age: 57

Highlights: The Die Hard movies, The Fifth Element, Tears of the Sun

Coming Up: A Good Day to Die Hard, Red 2, Sin City 2

3 Harrison Ford

While Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a pretty polarizing update to the franchise, Harrison Ford still showed he could punch, kick, swing and tackle like he could back in the 80s, also opting to do his own stunts. He also killed a dude with a coffee pot in Firewall; easily the best part of the movie.

Age: 70

Highlights: The Indiana Jones movies, the Star Wars movies, The Fugitive, the Jack Ryan movies

Coming Up: Ender’s Game (sci-fi), Paranoia (thriller) and possibly The Expendables 3

2 Tom Cruise

Though Mr. Cruise stands at an unimposing 5-foot-7, he packs a serious punch as the everyman’s action star of the Mission Impossible franchise, impressing us with his intensity and willingness to do frightening and dangerous stunts without a stuntman.

Age: 50

Highlights: The Mission Impossible movies, Minority Report

Coming Up: Oblivion, Mission Impossible 5

1 Steven Seagal

Just kidding guys, Steven Seagal is a ridiculous, ridiculous man. Can you imagine if he was in The Expendables? He would be the guy that reloads all the other guy’s weapons, cleans their boots and cooks their dinner.
