These Are The Top 10 ‘Most Fun Colleges In America’ And #1 Doesn’t Make Much Sense To Me

The fine folks over at Business Insider collated all of the existing data on the Internet about ‘Party School’ rankings, athletic facilities, greek life, happiest students, quality of life, prevalence of beer and hard alcohol, etc etc. and they synthesized the data into their 2016 ‘Most Fun Colleges in America‘ rankings. In the end, BI used 12 pieces of criteria to determine what the ‘Most Fun Colleges in America’ are, and they put together a list of 30.

Well, since they went through the trouble of putting together this massive set of rankings I didn’t want to be a douchebag and jack all 30, so instead I’ve listed 10 Most Fun Colleges in America below, and to see all 30 you can follow that link down below.

10. University of Dayton
9. Claremont McKenna College
8. Pennsylvania State University
7. West Virginia University
6. Syracuse University
5. Clemson University
4. Kansas State University
3. University of Iowa
2. Tulane University
1. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Most of the colleges on that list I can rationalize why they’re there. My own alma mater, FSU, comes in at #25, one slot ahead of our rival University of Florida who sits at a deplorable #26 ranking (seriously Gators, you can’t even crack the top 25?!). However, I cannot fathom why the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is #1 on the list of ‘Most Fun Colleges in America’.

Here’s what Business Insider says about this school:

Greek life is huge at University of Illinois, and nearly one-quarter of both men and women join either a fraternity or sorority. Going Greek isn’t the school’s only social outlet, however. Though they can’t be served until they turn 21, students only have to be 19 to enter bars in the surrounding towns.

Champaign also features a thriving music scene, with plenty of opportunities for students to attend various shows and concerts.

Greek life? Sure, that makes sense. A large proportion of the college is involved in Greek Life and that makes everything more fun, I get that. But ‘thriving music scene’?!? Are you fucking kidding me? Top tier bands don’t stop by Urbana-Champaign, in fact mid tier bands don’t even know where the fuck Champaign is. That’s simply laughable and I refuse to accept that the University of Illinois is the MOST FUN college in the nation….Don’t we think that perhaps the University of Hawaii is just slightly more fun than some college in Illinois?

I can take issue with this all I want but Business Insider’s methodology is pretty sound, you can check that out here, so I guess I’ll just have to take their word for it until next year’s rankings come out.
