Syracuse University Women’s Soccer Player Suspended From Team After Racist Rant Is Caught On Video

Instagram

Senior Syracuse University soccer player Hanna Strong is in hot water this week after an Instagram video of her screaming a racist rant went viral. Strong has been suspended from the ‘Cuse soccer team and the school released the following statement:

“This type of intolerant and hurtful language, focused on both race and sexual orientation, is not part of the culture we seek to foster among our student-athletes and it has no place at Syracuse University,” Gross wrote. “Syracuse Athletics, as a strong and diverse part of this University community, has zero tolerance for these actions.”

The uploader of the Instagram video says it shows how racism is still rearing its ugly head on campus at SU:

#SpeakUpSU Racism is alive and well and I know for a fact EVERY person of color on this campus has faced it one way or another! Faculty and staff are not excluded so please don’t be blind to reality it is 2014! Chancellor Kent is upset with scholars who achieve as well as party! Let’s see if he’ll give this as much of a fuss and recognition as he did our #1 party ranking! #DidNotSoundLikeBearOrDeerToMeKent ollow

The university is investigating. Meanwhile, The Daily Orange reports that students at ‘Cuse are outraged over the kind of vitriol that came out of her mouth.
