California’s Home To 3 Of The 10 Cities In America Where Employees Are Happiest

‘Workplace Happiness’ isn’t something I ever considered back in college when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I was mostly focused on Location and Starting Salary. After graduating in the middle of a hiring freeze and financial crisis I began to value Stability (financial security, workplace, and professional stability) above all. But, after spending some years in the workforce I have to admit, Workplace Happiness is something I’d probably place in my top 3 if I was ever looking for a new job.

I love my coworkers, I think we’ve got a shining parent company that gets brighter every day. Life is good. And I’ve learned that Workplace Happiness is more than just a room full of happy workers, it creates motivated employees who work harder.

Careers specialist Glassdoor put together their annual list of the top 10 cities in America where employees are happiest and California took home 3 of the top 4 spots. Is this because of mostly perfect California weather? Possibly. But it’s more likely because there are some awesome companies in those cities who have created incredibly working environments for their employees.

New York City is, without question, the greatest city in America. But it’s also expensive as hell, there’s an epidemic of rats, and the city can beat you down over time. San Francisco, on the other hand, is paradise, assuming you’re paid well. So I’m not at all shocked to see SF at #1. I am shocked that Miami made #10 though when it’s so fucking hot in Florida and the city will probably be underwater in the next 15 years.
