In case you were doubting that Netflix was a major player in the film industry, not only did they buy the rights to the Cloverfield sequel, but also spent the massive cash to promote it with a Super Bowl commercial. The trailer for Cloverfield Paradox aired during Super Bowl 52 and the awesome part is that you can watch the sci-fi sequel immediately following the big game.

The surprise announcement shocked many who didn’t know that the Cloverfield sequel was even a Netflix property. Netflix purchased the sci-fi sequel that has a budget of under $5 million from Paramount Pictures and the movie was produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. Cloverfield Paradox is set on the International Space Station, where a group of astronauts are being killed by something.

The movie was filmed in the summer of 2016, however, it needed reshoots in late 2017, which were overseen by Abrams, who included a new ending. The original Cloverfield from 2008 was a box office success, making over $170 million worldwide with a $25 million budget. Cloverfield Lane from 2016 made $110 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. Cloverfield Paradox will star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, and Zhang Ziyi. It is directed by Julius Onah.
