John Mayer Rushed To Hospital For Emergency Surgery While On Tour, Future Concerts In Question

A representative for singer/guitarist John Mayer has confirmed to TMZ that he was rushed to a hospital in New Orleans today for an emergency appendectomy. At the time TMZ published their article John Mayer was said to currently be in surgery. I don’t think I’m alone in sending as many positive vibes his way as possible, and wishing him the speediest recovery. He’s one of the greatest men in the music business right now and I hate seeing him go through a harrowing ordeal such as this.

John Mayer was scheduled to perform tonight in New Orleans with The Dead and Company but that concert’s already been postponed. They also have two concerts scheduled for later this week in Florida (Orlando and Sunrise). I have tickets for the Sunrise concert and a hotel room booked for two nights but I’m not very optimistic that Mayer will miraculously recover in the next 72 hours. It’s also way too short of notice for the band to bring in an outside guitarist/singer that they’ve worked with in the past like Trey Anastasio or Elvis Costello.

John Mayer is currently on tour with The Dead and Company, a collection of living members of the Grateful Dead where Mayer sings/plays most of the Jerry Garcia parts of music. Over the past several years, John Mayer has earned the respect and adulation of Grateful Dead fans all across America because he’s brought a fresh level of skill and improvisation that hasn’t been seen from the band in quite some time.

TMZ is reporting that the concert tickets for tonight’s show in NOLA will be honored at a future date once the band is able to re-schedule the gig, but fans are also able to receive a refund at point of purchase if they’re unable to attend the future show.
