Earlier this month, we found out that the Samsung is releasing three different versions of the Galaxy S9. We also heard rumors that the S9 would debut in late February at the Mobile World Congress, but now we are hearing that the S9 launch could be moved up to January so that it could be showcased at CES 2018, which is held in Las Vegas from January 9-12. We do know that the S9 release date will be much earlier than the S8, which was released on April 21, 2017. Now let’s see the latest leaks and rumors as to what Samsung’s newest flagship phone will offer.

As far as the appearance, most renders show the S9 to look similar to the S8, with the large and beautiful Infinity display with curved sides on the edges. The new handset may even boast a greater screen-to-body ratio by shrinking the size of the top and bottom bezels. The latest leaks come from Benjamin Geskin, who has a superb history of nailing down renders of upcoming smartphones.

Many Samsung fanatics are looking for three new features on the S9, but if the latest rumors are true, Samsung fans may be disappointed a bit. A dual camera is said to be available on the larger S9+ like the Galaxy Note 8 has. However, the regular Galaxy S9 will only feature a single camera setup like its predecessor. The latest leaks present some disappointing news as far as a fingerprint sensor built into the actual screen. Samsung has yet to master the technology to incorporate the fingerprint scanner into the display. The latest renders show a fingerprint sensor located on the back of the new S9. On the plus side, the fingerprint scanner is in a much better location than the S8 where it was right next to the rear camera lens.

Another bit of disappointing news is that the S9 will not offer a facial recognition system like the Apple iPhone X’s Face ID. Samsung will continue with the combination of the fingerprint scanner and the iris sensor, which is less accurate than facial recognition.

We do have some good news to report on, the Galaxy S9 is expected to flaunt some new hardware that will make the handset even faster. Samsung is reportedly working on second-generation 10-nanometer chips. The chips, which are named “10-nanometer LPP,” are said to provide 10% higher performance, while also using 15% less power than the current 10-nanometer LPE chips. This new efficient nanometer chips are expected to be in Qualcomm next-generation chips, which are said to be named the “Snapdragon 845.” Many believe that the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ phones will be equipped with this upgraded harware.

ETNews reports that mass production set to start in January. So for Samsung fans, you may want to pick up a discounted Galaxy S8 or a Note 8 if you want the dual camera. Plus don’t forget, Samsung is expected to roll out their exciting new foldable or bendable smartphone under the company’s flagship Galaxy Note line in 2018.
