We haven’t seen much from one of our favorite actresses, Natalie Portman, in quite some time. The past few years the movies she’s appeared in like Song to Song, Jane Got a Gun and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies were actually films Portman shot years ago, but just hadn’t been released yet (with good reason – they weren’t exactly award winners).

She also played in Jackie Kennedy in the 2016 film Jackie, which was a low-budget movie that not many people saw. And then there was Planetarium? Raise your hand if you saw that one. That’s what I thought.

So, like I said, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Natalie Portman in anything truly interesting.

That’s about to change though, because the new trailer for Portman’s upcoming horror film Annihilation, based on the first book in Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, not only looks visually incredible, it also looks completely terrifying.

According to Wikipedia

The book describes a team of four women (a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor) who set out into an area known as Area X. The area is abandoned and cut off from the rest of civilization. They are the 12th expedition. The other expeditions have been fraught with disappearances, suicides, aggressive cancers, and mental trauma. The novel won the 2015 Nebula Award for Best Novel and the 2014 Shirley Jackson Award for best novel.

Annihilation also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac, while the film was written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later).

Check out the crazy trailer for the film below as well as some other interesting bits that have been shared on social media…

Annihilation is scheduled to be released on February 23, 2018.
