Rich people take the best vacations. You know this because 1) you’re a rich person 2) you have rich friends/relatives or 3) you stalk these wealthy MoFos on Instagram.

I guess there’s a fourth option, and that’s whether or not you subscribe to Travel + Leisure magazine where they put out an annual list of the Top 100 Hotels in the World. Frankly, I’m partial to Mr. and Mrs. Smith which focuses on strictly boutique hotels. But I most certainly won’t deny that Travel + Leisure know what it takes to rank the top hotels in the world. They’ve been doing this for a long time and their experts know what it takes to be the best. Below, I’ve pulled the top 15 Hotels in the World in 2017 from their list but you can check out the Top 100 by following that link above. The number next to the hotel’s name is the overall score which is based on things such as facilities, overall value, location, food, service, etc….I find it remarkable how close the top hotels are in score and how little qualitative difference there is between the top hotels in the world based on this criteria.

15. Twin Farms, Barnard, Vermont — 97.54
14. Singita Sabi Sand, Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa — 97.63
13. 137 Pillars House, Chiang Mai, Thailand — 97.71
12. Fogo Island Inn, Newfoundland — 97.76 (pictured above)
10. (tie) Zarafa Camp, Selinda Reserve, Botswana — 98.00
10. (tie) Rosewood CordeValle, San Martin, California — 98.00
9. Inn at Willow Grove, Orange, Virginia — 98.13
8. Cavas Wine Lodge, Mendoza, Argentina — 98.22
7. Triple Creek Ranch, Darby, Montana — 98.23
6. Tswalu Kalahari, Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa — 98.40
5. Gibb’s Farm, Karatu, Tanzania — 98.59
4. Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, Matauri Bay, New Zealand — 98.61
3. Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch, Saratoga, Wyoming — 98.77
2. The Brando, Tetiaroa, French Polynesia — 98.91
1. Nihi Sumba Island (formerly Nihiwatu), Indonesia — 99.12

I think it’s pretty impressive that 27 of the top 100 Hotels in the World in 2017 are found right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. It’s nice to know that we don’t have to venture too far for some of the must luxurious properties on the planet.
