Sadly, the 2018 edition of the Vans Warped Tour will be it’s last. The iconic punk music festival is coming to an end after more than 20 years of entertaining the masses. The organizers of the Vans Warped Tour’s confirmed that this will be the last jam and on Wednesday night. The festival’s founder, Kevin Lyman, made the announcement on the tour’s website.
“I have been a very lucky person to have traveled across the country and sometimes around the world as one of the founders and producers of the Vans Warped Tour,” Lyman said. “Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour. I sit here reflecting on the tour’s incredible history, what the final run means for our community, and look forward to what’s to come as we commemorate the tour’s historic 25th anniversary in 2019.”
Lyman said the tour that started up in 1995 was a “punk-rock summer camp” that helped “the rise of pop punk” and “the birth of emo.” The festival is coming to an end because of declining ticket sales, fewer bands participating, and that he is exhausted. “Before Warped I was on three years of Lollapalooza, so [it’s been] 26 straight summers out on the road,” he said. “Not that I’m completely going anywhere, but traveling around the country with a tour this size in the landscape that we’re in is… to be honest, I’m just tired.”
With the tour ending we must hope that 2018 edition of the Vans Warped Tour becomes a greatest hits of the festival’s amazing history. What would a dream lineup for Vans Warped Tour 2018? It would be incredible if My Chemical Romance performed. One problem, MCR broke up on March 22, 2013. Could a My Chemical Romance reunion actually happen to thrill fans and give the VWT a proper sendoff? Here’s what a possible dream lineup for the 2018 Vans Warped Tour that would embody the history of the glorious music festival.
