Tyler and Cameron won $65 million from their lawsuit against Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, and from that (or other money they’d earned/acquired) they invested $11 million into Bitcoin back in 2011. As we learned in The Social Network (2010, the Winklevoss Twins have always lived an affluent lifestyle but now they’ve officially reached the ‘Tres Commas’ level of success.

Bitcoin has been extraordinarily volatile lately but at the end of the week it keeps going up, and up…and up. It hit a new high of $10,000 a week ago only to surge past that an reach $11,000. With Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss’ $11 million investment into Bitcoin back in 2011, they are now officially billionaires due to that investment. Wel, ‘officially’ might be a misnomer here. Is that real money? Is it? In a 2015 interview, Tyler Winklevoss described Bitcoins as a ‘better gold‘ and said that the overall market cap for Bitcoin could be somewhere in the trillions.

I’ll be honest, when I first checked out this story and saw a picture of the real-life Winklevoss Twins I forgot that they weren’t actor Armie Hammer. I’d argue that 99.999% of the world only know of the Winklevoss Twins because of The Social Network (2010) which told the story of Mark Zuckerberg launching Facebook while still at Harvard, and getting sued by both his co-founder and the Winklevoss Twins throughout the process. Because none of us ever knew who these guys were before that film was released I think we all associate them with Armie Hammer, the actor who played both twins in the film.
