10 Scooby Doo and Shaggy Marijuana
Scooby and Shaggy were clearly the two slackers of Mystery, Inc. Add in the fact that they always had the munchies, were way too paranoid about everything and drove around in the back of a van, and it’s pretty safe to say that these two were ripping bong hits every chance they got. Of course, there’s also the infamous recurring scene in which the Mystery Machine drives away and smoke curiously billows out the back. Scooby DOOBY Doo!
9 Woody Woodpecker Cocaine
The hyper-speed energy of Woody Woodpecker is just too boundless and frenetic to be the mannerisms of a completely sober cartoon character. I mean, you can’t watch an episode of this classic cartoon – what with Woody bouncing off the walls, eyes all big and dilated – and not start to catch onto the fact that he was snorting something up that beak of his.
8 The Caterpillar From Alice in Wonderland Opium
The Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland smokes out of a hookah – case closed. Further ammo – at one point he exhales and a cloud of smoke in the shape of a Chinese dragon comes out of his mouth. Oh, and he also informs Alice that she can grow and shrink through the use of mushrooms. Sounds like the guy knows his way around a drug party.
Note: The Caterpillar is probably just the clearest example of someone getting stoned in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat were clearly on something as well, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee were probably huffing paint out in those woods.
7 Goofy Glue
Speaking of huffing, Goofy was just a little too loopy to suffer from low IQ alone. With his patented awkward walk and remarkable ability to fall flat on his ass, those motor skills of his were obviously impaired in some way. My bet is on rubber cement, but I could also see this dopey Mickey sidekick sniffing on a Sharpie or sucking nitrous from a red balloon.
6 Chester Cheetah Marijuana
Forget the old cats vs. dog feud – Chester Cheetah would be great friends with Scooby Doo. If this cartoon feline ever took off those patented sunglasses of his, it’s probably fair to say we’d see a couple of dry, bloodshot eyes. And of course, anyone who loves Cheetos as much as that Cheetah has got to have a pretty healthy level of THC circulating through the body.
5 Popeye Steroids
Spinach makes you strong? Yeah, right – not that fast at least. Symptoms of steroid use include sudden growth in muscles, increased aggression and feelings of invincibility. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, another symptom is poor decision making – which would explain why ol’ Popeye was dating that whiny string bean with the wobbly arms – Olive Oyl.
4 Pepe Le Pew Ecstasy
How do you spell love. Well, when you love everything as intensely as Pepe Le Pew, the answer is probably M-D-M-A. Combine his overt affection with the fact that he couldn’t stop rubbing his hands all over the ladies, and it makes a pretty strong case that Pepe Le Pew was hitting up the underground rave scene in his off time.
3 Animal PCP
Symptoms of PCP include erratic behavior, poor speech, mania and a blank stare facial expression. Animal possesses all of these traits. Angel dust also grants the user extreme strength. If you recall, the enthusiastic drummer of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem actually had to be CHAINED to his drum set because he became so violent. Oh, and he’s a musician – a profession that virtually requires you to be a drug addict.
2 Yakko, Wakko and Dot LSD
The odd behavior of the three main characters from Animaniacs might be the result of many different types of drugs. However, when you take into account clues such as Wakko attempting to eat scene backgrounds and Yakko believing he’s the king of a made-up country named Anvilania, the use of hallucinogenics becomes more apparent. Clearly, only such grand illusions could be caused by LSD.
1 Pippi Longstocking Marijuana
Here’s one more pothead for the books. If that picture doesn’t sell you, Pippi’s love for all things fun, along with her disdain for authority figures and public schooling should serve to further bolster her hippie tendencies. She also loves telling long stories that consist of nothing but pure nonsense or ridiculousness. Pippi’s curious super strength (she can lift a horse over her head with one hand) also suggests that she may be lacing those joints with PCP.
sorry, but popeye was smoking pot. spinach was slang for pot when the cartoon originally appeared, and although it his behaviour doesn't match the stereotype of today's pothead, it does conform to the behaviour described in the anti-pot propaganda of the time.

sure, a few of these characters can definitely be tied to certain drugs (scooby and shaggy, popeye, animal, and goofy are the only ones i see on this list that i can say you tied in (mostly)correctly. everything else, you may want to do a little more research on. people who don't use trying to make a funny about drugs=DOESN'T WORK.

Very funny, and so true. But here's a few from other children's shows in the UK that you really need to think about:
1) Bill and Ben The Flowerpot Men
These dudes lived in an English garden, next to a shed, spoke in "flobberty-gibberish", and their best friend was Little Weed! Need I say more?
2) Dylan the Rabbit from The Mafic Roundabout
Whether the entire cast and scope of The Magic Roundabout was the result of an LSD experiment or not, it is true that Dylan was modelled on Bob Dylan, and was always spaced out!

well, god thinks is right, as with heavydruguser. It's not that these are not funny, I laughed, but most of them are just wrong. It is humor based on people's stereotypes of drugs. And also, hookahs are mainly used for tobacco, in any country. Some people smoke other random stuff and weed out of them, but the majority still simply smoke shisha out of them.
Of course the Mad Hatter was on something. He was "mad as a hatter" from all the mercury used in making hats.
What about Mighty Mouse? He would dive into "white powder" to get his strength….hmmmmmmm sounds a little like Cocaine to me. Oh, childhood cartoons, they teach us well.

just to clear things up, pop eye was not on steroids. the creators of the show used the spinach to represent cocaine. thats why, whenever he ate his spinach, his muscles grew and he got a burst of energy. that the effect of cocaine. should have done some more research!
Well, I expected some characters other than the ones selected. Still, most of the characters selected just don't seem to be users of any kind. I think that the writer of this article is under the age of 30. Most anyone over that age wouldn't even think of a list like this. Got to agree with the catepiller.

Oh, great, another retard who needs to correlate things to drugs. Okay, I can understand the Scooby Doo reference, all weed-head stoners get the munchies, but seriously? Half the bilge you regurgitated onto this page makes it look like you found the most interesting (or obnoxious) characters in cartoon history, and somehow correlated them and their personalities and behaviors to the effects of various drugs, regardless of any research behind it.
What really is sad though? Every stoner on the internet is going to look at this load and say "OMG you are totally right ha ha ha I never realized but that is exactly how it is for sure 100% totally man dude". And why is that? Because none of them have half the sense to look past the immature amusement of relating childhood characters to your modern drug interests to see that, to be perfectly frank, you could take any of these characters and relate them to oh, say, mental illnesses or videogame addictions.
But here you are. You took the most bland, unsophisticated approach to comedy in order to pander to the most lackluster of our social groups.Well, don't you feel like the giant of scholarly achievement. Oh, and as a side note, it's hookah. It was invented in the 1500's in India for, quote "smoking tobacco in which the smoke is cooled and filtered by passing through water" unquote. And mushrooms? There are species of mushroom that are, in fact, edible and do not cause hallucinations. Have you even bothered looking into the backstory or reasoning behind Alice in Wonderland? Obviously not.
So, again, congratulations on taking something from our childhood and perverting it with something completely worthless and inane. Good for you.

To (God Thinks): You need to calm down and relax. This is a humorous article, not to be taken seriously. The author is just joking around. I doubt he actually beleives these characters were on drugs. As for the use of hookahs; they are also used for smoking opium and marijuana. In fact, more people today use hookahs for marijuana, than for tobacco. A hookah is a type of water pipe, it can be used to smoke whatever you want to smoke.

RE: Alice In Wonderland, the Mad Hatter was mad due to the intake of mercury vapour. Mercury used to be used in hat-making, to help bind strands of animal fur to produce felt. (Mercury itself is pretty harmless, it's the vapours it produces that are harmful). Besides that, the whole book is about people/animals tripping in many ways – the original book is quite dark and scary in parts

I beg to differ, unless you have a shit ton of money you can't really afford to smoke pot out of a hookah, the average sized bowl on a regular sized hookah is HUGE, it would cost at least $80-$120 to fill it up once… trust me I have one and that's not what I used it for. It's very impractical to smoke pot out of a hookah… maybe for a special occasion but definitely not an every day apparatus.
