See The Meteoric Rise Of Adonis Creed, Rocky’s Protege, In Dramatic Second Trailer For ‘Creed’

The second trailer for Creed gives us more background information about the highly anticipated next chapter of the Rocky series. The sneak peak expands on the first trailer including Adonis Creed’s tough upbringing, his love interest and his mom.

Sylvester Stallone is back as Rocky Balboa, but he instead of being in the ring, he is outside the ropes teaching a promising boxer. His protege is the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s arch-enemy turned confidant. However Rocky has his own fight, because he is battling cancer.

“I’ve been fighting my whole life,” Adonis says. “It’s not a choice for me.”

Adonis Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan, didn’t get to know his dad and grew up in foster homes. Adonis also apparently doesn’t know his mother very well. Mary Anne Creed is played by Phylicia Rashad, who is of course Clair Huxtable, and she was everyone’s mom in the 1980s.

Tessa Thompson (Selma) is Creed’s chick. The film also stars Graham McTavish (Dwalin from The Hobbit movies) and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan. The film was written and directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station).

Creed hits theaters on November 25.

They even give a nod to Rocky II, when Rocky takes a page out of Mickey Goldmill’s training playbook and has the young boxer chase a chicken to improve his quickness. But things are a little different, and Adonis is no Kentucky-fried idiot.
