Saturday Night Live absolutely destroyed your favorite EDM DJ with the help of their old friend Andy Samberg. The EDM genre is in a golden era right now and has captivated a mainstream audience that it has never enticed before. DJ’s like Tiësto, Deadmau5, Skrillex, David Guetta and Avicii are raking in ridiculous amounts of money and in fact EDM’s top earners made $268 million over the past year, that’s more than the combined gross domestic product of island nations Kiribati and Tuvalu. For instance Calvin Harris makes in excess of $200,000 per gig and in 2013 he made a mind-blowing $46 million. SNL picked up on this relatively new explosion by having Andy Samberg rock the 1’s and 2’s by portraying DJ Davvincii for The Lonely Island skit, “When Will The Bass Drop?” Davvincii rocks the crowd by doing everything BUT DJing. You can see him cooking eggs, sketching portraits, playing Jenga, making sand art, receiving huge sacks of money and running credit cards of concert-goers all while he is getting the crowd hyped during his show.
