These Clever ‘Game Of Thrones’ Clues From HBO Could Reveal The Season 7 Future Of Arya Stark

Arya Stark Game of Thrones Season 7

HBO

Today, we are 40 days out from the Season 7 premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones which will air on Sunday, July 16th. We got the first official trailer for Game of Thrones Season 7 two weeks ago, which you can see below if you haven’t watched it yet. Season 7 will be the second to last season for HBO’s immeasurably successful fantasy series created by author George R.R. Martin, and the hype train is VERY REAL as we march towards the season premiere.

There aren’t exactly spoilers below. As noted on Vanity Fair, everything below comes straight from HBO so you could piece this all together if you spent enough time on the Internet. But, if you’re not caught up through Season 6 yet you might want to avoid the info below.

Now, the future of Arya Stark. If you’ve been reading BroBible for a while then you’ve probably seen my mention (many times) that Arya’s my favorite Game of Thrones character. She used to feature prominently in my ‘Biggest Winners and Losers’ ‘Game of Thrones’ recaps. And I wholeheartedly believe that she will play a prominent role over the next two seasons as the series comes to a close.

Season 6 ended with Arya Stark boarding a boat to head home to Westeros and she’s on her way to Winterfell. Based on the trailer (below) we know she makes it to dry land, but beyond that we’ll have to go on the information below…Things will move fast now, so keep up.

HBO’s Denmark Facebook page shared this image:

We last saw that knife in Season 1 when Littlefinger had it after an assassin stole the knife from Tyrion Lannister and broke into Bran Stark’s bedroom in Winterfell and tried to murder him. The knife is made of Valyrian Steel, the steel which Jon Snow used to kill White Walkers, a VERY rare steel that only the most respected households in Westeros have swords or daggers made from the material.

Well, we recently saw Maisie Williams, the actress who plays Arya Stark, appear on the cover of Entertainment Weekly wearing that Valyrian steel dagger along with thick black leather clothing you’d expect to see Starks wearing in the North:

We know that Littlefinger was the last person in possession of the Valyrian steel dagger, and we know that he ended last season up near Winterfell alongside Sansa Stark. Now that HBO is releasing promo photos like the one above, if we want to connect the dots there are a few possible scenarios:

1) Arya Stark has made it to Winterfell and either taken that dagger from Littlefinger using lethal force. She’s a trained assassin now and could easily kill him in his sleep.
2) Arya Stark could’ve made it to Winterfell only to be gifted the dagger by Littlefinger. Sansa could’ve filled Arya in on the peculiar relationship between her and Littlefinger, and he could’ve given Arya the insanely rare dragon steel dagger as a peace offering. The dagger can then later be used to kill white walkers.
3) This could all be a ploy by HBO to get fans talking.
4) The dagger on Arya’s hip could be an oversight by HBO, a prop that was on set, and we could be making something out of nothing.

Personally, I think the second option is the most likely but we’ll all have to sit back and find out because we really don’t know where the next two seasons are taking us. Now, here’s that Season 7 trailer if you haven’t watched it yet:

To see a brief history of Valyrian Steel in the Game of Thrones world you can head over to Vanity Fair where they explain how the dagger could factor into the plotline, and which other houses are in possession of Valyrian Steel swords and daggers.
