Bill Simmons Is Back: Joins HBO For New Weekly Series And More

Much speculation has been made as to where former ESPN personality Bill Simmons would land and now that speculation can be put to rest as Simmons has signed a deal with HBO.

The multi-year, multi-platform agreement will begin in October, according to Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming…

“We have been fans of Bill Simmons and his work for a very long time. His intelligence, talent and insights are without precedent in the areas he covers. We could not be more thrilled for him to bring those talents to HBO and to become a signature voice at the network, spanning the sports and pop culture landscapes.”

Simmons too seems quite happy with this move to HBO…

“It’s no secret that HBO is the single best place for creative people in the entire media landscape. From the moment I started talking to Michael and Richard [Plepler, HBO chairman and CEO], it was hard to imagine being anywhere else.”

Simmons production deal involves producing content that will include video podcasts and features. He will also be consulting with HBO Sports including the development of shows and documentary films. Simmons will also have his own talk show, which will premiere in 2016 and air on HBO’s main service, as well as on HBO Go and HBO Now.

Here’s how Bill Simmons, himself, made the announcement…
