So far with Call of Duty: WWII we’ve learned about the multiplayer mode, the new divisions system that replaces the create-a-class system, and the campaign mode. But we haven’t seen much regarding the beloved zombie mode. We are finally getting some images and teases regarding zombie mode in CoD: WWII and they are definitely not for the faint-hearted.

On July 5, the Call of Duty Twitter account released this gruesome and “twisted” image of an undead soldier from World War II.

Glen Schofield, co-founder of Sledgehammer, posted an even gorier screenshot from the upcoming zombie mode and it is rather gut-churning.

Schofield does not say what we’re looking at here, but it is pretty bloody. It appears to be walls of flesh surrounding a metal rod. One possibility is that the zombies in CoD: WWII are created by the Nazis as an undead army to attack the Americans. Is this a zombie cut open at the spine or brain stem and this is a mechanism implanted into the zombies to control them?

“Zombies is its own thing but with a similar sick, twisted vibe,” Schofield said. “The world is definitely in its own dark place. Very dark. Fun as hell tho.” Schofield was asked, “On a scale of 1 to 10 how gory is this zombies mode?” He replied, “11.” He added that it will be similar to the 2008 game Dead Space, which was set in space where you battled zombie-like monsters called Necromorphs on an interstellar mining ship.

The big reveal on the zombie mode is coming on July 20 at their panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con. The 2017 Comic-Con International in San Diego runs from July 20, 2017, until July 23, 2017. Call of Duty: WW2 busts into your world on November 3, 2017, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
