Injustice 2 Trailer Teases DC Superheroes And Supervillains Fight In Epic Clash For Upcoming Game

Injustice: Gods Among Us came out in 2013 and pitted DC superheroes and villains against one another in a combat arena. FINALLY, we will get a sequel to the popular fighting game with Injustice 2!

On Wednesday morning, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment officially announced Injustice 2, and slated a release date for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One some time in 2017. Developer NetherRealm, which made the first game, will also create the sequel.

Ed Boon, boss of NetherRealm, released a statement that said Injustice 2 will include “new features that will change the way fans play fighting games.”

The game’s official description:

“Injustice 2 offers the latest DC fighting game experience that expands on the previous title’s larger-than-life showdowns. Every battle defines you in a game where players personalize iconic DC characters with unique and powerful gear earned throughout the game. For the first time gamers can take control of how their characters look, fight and develop across a variety of game modes.”

The game promises character customization of “massive roster” of your favorite DC superheroes and supervillains.

NetherRealm’s community specialist, Tyler Lansdown, breaks down how the customization will work:

Players will be able to customize fighters with a new Gear System, which rewards the player with loot every time they play. Each loot reward has a chance to drop character-specific gear that can then be used to outfit and power up different characters. It changes not “only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match.”

Think of it kind of like how RPG games utilise loot drops.

Warner Bros. boasted that Injustice 2 will offer the “largest DC roster ever in a fighting game.”

As of right now confirmed characters for the upcoming game include Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. The combat arenas include familiar comicbook locales such as Metropolis, Gotham City and Atlantis.

GameSpot has details on the plot for Injustice 2:

The sequel also continues the story of the first game, which was set in an alternate universe where Joker unleashes a nuclear bomb on Metropolis and tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane and his son. In response, Superman establishes himself as High Councillor of a World Government and begins a dictatorship. Batman leads a group of rebel forces and the heroes and villains of the DC Universe are forced to take sides.

For Injustice 2, Batman works together with his allies to “[put] the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime.” And that’s not all.

“In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk,” NetherRealm teased.

We can expect to learn more details at E3 2016 next week.

Bring it on!
