‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ On Astounding Pace To Surpass ‘Avatar’ As Highest-Grossing Movie Of All-Time

You may have heard of this movie called “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” You may have also heard that it’s doing pretty gosh darn well at the box office. Well it’s not doing gosh darn well. It’s doing astronomical figures at the box office! It’s doing so mind-blowingly well that it looks to dethrone the highest-grossing movie of all-time, “Avatar.”

The latest chapter of “Star Wars” opened in theaters on December 18, 2015, and in only its opening weekend has grabbed a record $247 million at the domestic box office and currently has a worldwide total of more than $610 million. The sci-fi blockbuster has shattered records with the biggest domestic, foreign and worldwide openings.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” now takes aim at James Cameron’s epic “Avatar,” which currently holds the title of highest-grossing movie ever. “Avatar” made a staggering $2.79 billion globally, but “Star Wars” looks ready to force choke the tall blue aliens.

At its current remarkable pace, “The Force Awakens” should easily surpass $1 billion globally this coming weekend, which would top the previous mark for fastest to that unbelievable number previously held by “Jurassic World,” which accomplished that feat it in 13 days in June. “The Force Awakens” also looks to kill off the dinosaurs’ record for biggest second-weekend gross of $106 million.

To get in the top five highest-grossing movies of all-time, here’s what “The Force Awakens” will need to pull in.

1.) “Avatar” (2009) – $2.79 billion worldwide

2.) “Titanic” (1997) – $2.19 billion worldwide

3.) “Jurassic World” (2015) – $1.67 billion worldwide

4.) “The Avengers” (2012) – $1.519 billion worldwide

5.) “Furious 7” (2015) – $1.515 billion worldwide

If “The Force Awakens” does beat “Avatar” in the box office, Cameron will have three chances to reclaim the throne. “Avatar 2” hits theaters on Christmas 2017 and “Avatar 3” comes out on Christmas 2018. However, Star Wars strikes back with their new standalone movie “Rogue One” on December 16, 2016 and Episode VIII, which follows “The Force Awakens,” will debut on May 16, 2017. It is rumored that Episode IX will also be in theaters for Memorial Day of 2019 while “Avatar 4” is said to arrive in the winter of 2019. Strap in for these epic box office wars.

And if you didn’t believe the Star Wars mania based on box office results, there is also the story of Arthur Charles Roy. The 18-year-old man from Helena, Montana was so obsessed about seeing the movie that when he found out spoilers he went all Kylo Ren.

Last Thursday, Roy saw “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” spoilers on Facebook from a friend. He then brushed it off and went to the theater and enjoyed the movie. Just kidding, he sent his friend a picture of himself with a gun and threatened to come to the victim’s school to shoot him.

Helena’s alternative high school was locked down Friday morning. Roy was arrested on Friday afternoon.

On Monday, he was charged with felony assault with a weapon. He remains jailed with his bail set at $10,000. Let that be a lesson to everyone to not post spoilers. Oh and don’t threaten to kill someone for posting spoilers either.
