WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD!
On last night’s Game of Thrones we saw Arya, now independent from the Faceless Men, trying to buy passage home to Westeros only to be stabbed in the gut by the Waif moments later. Injured, she escapes by jumping off a bridge and swimming out of sight…however, eagle eyed Reddit viewers don’t think that was the real Arya:
If you think about it, this makes sense – Arya has shown herself to be an intelligent, brave girl who flies under the radar at all times. Why buy fancy clothes and flaunt wealth when that flies in the face of everything we’ve come to know about her? Some people think it’s because that was actually Jaquen H’ghar setting a trap for the Waif, testing to see if she’d follow orders and give Arya a quick death rather than making her suffer:
Another theory even goes so far as to say that the Waif will kill Jaquen disguised as Arya, fulfilling the three names Arya gave him back at Harrenhal (she never explicitly rescinded his name on-camera) and leaving Arya to kill the Waif herself. This, to me, seems a little far-fetched in that I don’t think the writers would be willing to assume show-watchers will remember this one small and omitted detail from the early seasons.
Not everyone agrees that the Arya we saw last night was Jaquen though, with some suggesting that it was simply Arya carrying pigs blood pouches underneath her clothing to trick the Waif:
Ok…so we can all assume that fight scene was an act….but I figured its worth some suggestive ideas. So….
1. Before the scene she was seen flaunting Money to the Westeros Captain in order to get the word out there that a young girl was on her way to westeros in the morning.
2. Then she chooses an open spot to try and avoid an easy death check after the fight. (Bridge)
3. We can assume she knows enough from training to figure the waif will attack to the body. So I believe she has 1 or more pigs blood pouches around her body. She knows where and how to do this because last episode…she saved the actress. The actress then provided her help to make the scene on the bridge large and realistic.
4. She then leaves the water and leaves a trail of blood….to lead her enemys to her. Expecting an unarmed (because she choose not to show needle during the fight scene) and injured girl; they will instead walk down a dark alley and be met with an uninjured girl who knows how to fight in the dark and carrying a sword.(via)
