When we last left Cersei on Game of Thrones she was in the process of getting pelted with rotted meat and other various objects during her literal walk of naked shame through the streets of King’s Landing. Broken and afraid, she makes it back to the Red Keep and we see that she’s no longer the prideful bitch that us viewers have been rooting against since season 1.
Tyrion, on the other hand, is aboutta WRECK SHIT. Bro is off in Meereen and it was strongly hinted that he’s going to be the one ruling in Daenery’s place since she’s off flying with dragons and getting ambushed by Dothraki raiders…someplace.
But guess what – HBO doesn’t care that Tyrion is literally the best character left on Game of Thrones, or that we’re all dying to see Cersei fall even further into a pit of despair. In a statement delivered by the juggernaut network, HBO stated that they’re no longer shooting in Croatia for season 6 of Game of Thrones.
For those of you who don’t see how Tyrion and Cersei’s plotlines connect to shooting in Croatia, King’s Landing is shot in the town of Dubrovnik while the village of Klis serves as Meereen. According to Metro,
HBO have confirmed that ‘based on story and location needs Game Of Thrones will not be shooting in Croatia for season 6′.
The pretty town of Dubrovnik stood in for Kings Landing, the capital of Game Of Thrones’ Seven Kingdoms which was the setting for season five’s controversial scene which saw Cersei (Lena Headey) forced to walk the streets of the city naked to repent for her adultery.
The decision also means that the village of Klis, known in the show as the fictional city of Meereen, will be dropped.
…HBO added in their statement that ‘the question of whether the production will return to Croatia in the future will be decided once additional seasons are officially set by HBO’.
They added: ‘At that time, the production, along with HBO, will assess their location needs based on the scripts and storylines.
With any luck, Cersei and Tyrion will just pop up elsewhere throughout the season. Or, OR, this could mean that we’re going to focus HEAVILY on the wall and John Snow’s storyline – assuming he’s not actually dead. Which he isn’t. HE FUCKING ISN’T OKAY DON’T TAKE THIS FROM ME IT’S ALL I HAVE LEFT.
And this BETTER not mean we’re going to have to sit through more scenes of Brienne being god-awfully boring. I dig the “girl power hoorayyy!” shit she’s got going on — but her plotline sucks thusfar.
