HBO Says TJ Miller Is Leaving ‘Silicon Valley’ After This Season In Shocking Announcement

On the same day that HBO announced that they’ve renewed Silicon Valley for a 5th season they have also shocked fans by announcing that T.J. Miller, the actor who plays Erlich Bachman, will be departing the show.

Since Episode 1, Erlich Bachman has become one of the best parts of Silicon Valley. He was an integral part in telling the greatest dick joke ever told (video below), but a statement from HBO to THR claims TJ Miller and HBO are mutually parting ways after Season 4 wraps up and neither T.J. nor his character Erlich Bachman will be returning with the rest of the cast for Season 5:

“The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5,” said the cable network in a statement. “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”

T.J. Miller has an upcoming stand-up comedy special on HBO, Meticulously Rediculous, which will air on June 17th. So he still has a very much intact working relationship with HBO, at least for now. With such an abrupt announcement you can’t help but speculate on the reasons that he’d be leaving.

Perhaps he was demanding more money and the network wasn’t willing to give in? Or mayhaps he’s tired of Silcon Valley fans stopping him in the street to talk about Erlich Bachman. It’s possible he wanted to jump ship before he got typecasted for the rest of his career…Thoughts? Hit me up in the comments below.

Now, there was talk of the ‘best dick joke’ ever told. Here it is:
