GULP.
One of the most memorable photos from 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing was a gruesome image of marathon attendee, Jeff Bauman, being wheeled away from the carnage by two brave samaritans. His face was plastered white with debris. His leg entirely mangled from the blast.
When Bauman awoke days later after hours of extensive surgeries that would claim both of his leg, he ripped out his breathing tube and tried to speak. He was unable. He then asked for a pen and paper and he wrote down seven words:
“Saw the guy. Looked right at me.”
This set off one of the biggest manhunts in this nation’s history and marked the beginning of Bauman’s long road to recovery.
The film, Stronger, which will be hit theaters September 22, documents Jeff Bauman (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), a 27-year-old, working-class Boston man who was at the marathon to try and win back his ex-girlfriend Erin (Maslany). Erin has since become his wife.
Director David Gordon Green, best known for his comedy chops (Pineapple Express, Eastbound and Down, Your Highness, Vice Principals) directed the film.
