By the time Matthew McConaughey said “Alright, alright, alright” during his Oscar speech two weeks ago, the phrase was 21 years old. First uttered in Dazed and Confused by his character David Wooderson, the three words—as McConaughey explained in this awesome 2011 interview recently uploaded to YouTube—were actually inspired by Doors’ singer Jim Morrison. And he was high as a kite when he first said ’em.
