For far, far too long, Matthew McConaughey synonymous with the butt-end of a Hollywood jokes about his idiosyncratic ways and party boy antics. The fact of the matter is he’s a hella talented human being, as we saw with his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyer’s Club and as an existentialist gumshoe in True Detective. It’s nothing but joy to see him win all the damn awards because he fucking deserves them. Can’t blame a Bro for simply being a Bro.
Last night at the 2014 Critics’ Choice Television Awards, McConaughey won Best Actor in a Drama Series for Rust Cohle in True Detective. His acceptance speech was classic McConaughey, with him giving a shout for how high the bar is for critically-acclaimed television series these days. In fact, he kind of went off the rails while gushing about how great TV is these days.
McConaughey, in a way, is just like us. He’s all about that water cooler-talk that only incredibly-produced shows like True Detective can spark.
