‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Phil Robertson Said Some Wacky Shit About Gays to ‘GQ’

Robertson made the remarks in a (pretty great) profile of Duck Dyansty written by Deadspin blogger and GQ correspondent Drew Magary. It turns out the Dynasty patriarch, who has no bones about calling himself a “Bible-thumper,” thumps it particularly hard when the topic of modern immorality is brought up.

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there,” he explained, “bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

And after equating gays to dog-bangers, he said this:

“It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus, that's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical.”

Oh, he also reiterated his view that African-Americans were happier before the Civil Rights era. But now we're just piling on.

Magary said today that it was never his intention to demonize Phil for holding views against what the majority of the country now believes. “I don't agree with Phil's politics, and I have a lot of gay relatives and colleagues who would bristle at Phil's 'hate the sin, love the sinner' view of homosexuality,” Drew wrote. “But I still like Phil and found him to be an otherwise decent fellow. I think it's all right to think that, and I think it's all right to hope that whatever fuss arises out of his comments—it's happening already—will soften him a bit toward what he believes to be wicked behavior.”

Anyway, it's kind of a shame that Duck Dynasty—which is the unlikliest of hits and boasts a backstory more entertaining than the show itself—will be overshadowed by Phil inserting himself into the Culture War. It's such a brutal war. Chick-Fil-A lost a lotta good men out there: Thousands of nuggets, dead, bleeding Polynesian and Buffalo sauce.
