Two of Michael Jackson’s kids, daughter Paris and son Prince Michael, are no longer kids anymore. They’ve both reached an age where they are becoming more public figures and starting to share what it was like having The King of Pop for a dad.

Paris is 18 now and starting to get work as a model and actress.

While Prince Michael, 20, has embarked on a music career having already produced his first music video.

They’ve also become much more open when it comes to their thoughts about their ultra-famous dad, his life, his death and what it was like growing up with him.

In an interview this week with ABC News, Prince Michael revealed that as kids it took them awhile to figure out how famous their dad was…

“It did take a while. Even after we realized he was the King of Pop, even to this day, I don’t think it holds the same weight to us as to other people, because he was our dad, or daddy, whatever you want to call him.”

And even then it took a surreal experience for it to really kick in…

“I guess when we realized it, is when we saw videos of him performing. We were out of the country at the time, and we were watching videos of his performances, and I’d been used to seeing most females pass out when they see their artist, and you know, they get very emotional, but what blew my mind was when I saw these big muscle-bound dudes fainting and having to be dragged out. I was like, ‘OK, there’s something else going on here.’”

As for what he believes his dad would think of his son’s pursuits today?

“As we were growing up my dad always said, ‘I really don’t care what you do in life, as long as you’re happy doing it and you’re the best at what you do. If you want to be a janitor at a high school, you should be the best janitor that you can be.'”

“So, I think that he would always be the supporting figure to me and my siblings and support us in all the endeavors that we try.”

He also found out just how hard what his dad accomplished really is after completing his first music video…

“After doing ‘Automatic’ I had done some research, which I should’ve probably done before, but I had found out that my dad’s music video ‘Scream’ was actually one of the most expensive music videos to make, adjusted for inflation of course, but I take a lot of inspiration for that as well with the long form of storytelling in music videos because music is an art. It’s something that should come from your heart and having an accompanied visual really can tell the story.”

Very interesting stuff. For even more check out the entire interview below.
