Robert Downey, Jr. Sets The Record Straight On The Chances Of Him Ever Making ‘Iron Man 4’

Back in October of 2014, there were conflicting reports on whether or not Robert Downey, Jr. would ever be making a fourth Iron Man movie. One report confirmed that he was making it, while in the other Downey refuted that it would be happening.

Since then fans of the Iron Man franchise, which is a whole lot of people, were holding out hope that Iron Man 4 would indeed get made. It’s not like it wouldn’t bring in boatloads of cash (Iron Man 3 made over $1 billion worldwide) and Downey himself has said he loves the character so there always seemed to be a chance.

Unfortunately, it appears that those dreams are going to be dashed as Downey himself doesn’t see it ever happening.

He tells USA Today

“I don’t think that’s in the cards. In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.”

He does have a point. The movie may be called Captain America: Civil War, but the war is with Iron Man and his group of superheroes so Tony Stark is probably going to get a very large chunk of screen time in the film. He most certainly has in all of the trailers.

Downey also gave a little insight on whether Tony Stark is going to go full villain in Cap 3 like he did in the comic books…

“If we’re going to go there, then we’ve got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow.”

Now all we need to know is when that “swan song” is actually going to take place? Is Captain America: Civil War it for Tony or will it be when the two-part Avengers: Infinity War comes out in 2018 and 2019?

Speaking of Iron Man and Captain America: Civil War, if you’re into spoilers then here’s a little something juicy you might want to check out…
