Tonight’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Episode Broke the Bank in a Major Way

As ‘Game of Thrones’ delves further and further into George RR Martin’s novels, the events of the fantasy series are getting more and more epic.

Naturally, the episodes of the show have to follow suit. That comes at a price, though. In season two, there was the Battle of Blackwater Bay, which was the show’s most expensive at $8 million.

Now, according to actor Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow and who will have a prominent role in tonight’s ‘The Watchers on the Wall,’ this episode takes the cost cake.

“I think it’s as big as Thrones has gone at the moment. I mean, I think it’s no secret that it’s the most expensive episode that they’ve ever made and a lot of that is due to the CGI I haven’t seen any of that yet, obviously, so that’s going to be a new thing for me, but yeah, it’s pretty huge in scale. I think it’s as big as TV goes, and that was incredible to be one of the leading actors in that episode….I feel hugely privileged.”

The showrunners told EW to prep for a huge, intense episode.

[Said David Benioff] “I wouldn’t say it’s wall-to-wall action — because it doesn’t start right away — but once it gets going about 15 minutes into the episode it doesn’t stop.”

“In terms of the sets, our new production designer Deborah Riley did this magnificent top-of-The Wall set, far bigger than what we had before, so you can do walk-and-talks, you can have massive action sequences. It’s completely surrounded by green screen, which is apparently the biggest green screen in Europe.”

This freakin’ show, man.
