I’m absolutely hooked on HBO’s Westworld. It is the first TV show I watch in real-time (and not on my DVR) since Game of Thrones first premiered, and I’m loving every second of it.
If you bros have been watching Westworld thus far then you know that 1) this past Sunday’s episode was the game-changing equivalent to Ned Stark being decapitated in Season 1 of Game of Thrones and 2) the show is plowing full-steam ahead towards some massive season finale plot twist and/or revelation.
Yesterday, the co-creators of Westworld went on Reddit to conduct an AMA (an ‘Ask Me Anything‘ Q&A) and co-creator Jonathan Nolan, brother of Christopher Nolan and co-writer of the Dark Knight Batman trilogy, shared a GIF in response to a seemingly irrelevant question asked by one Redditor. Now we’ve reached the point of minor spoilers in the Westworld plot thus far, but if you’re caught up (or have even watched 1 or 2 eps) then we’re all on the same page here.
So, after the AMA redditor mattdezine posted this image questioning what has happened to the ten thousand plus paintings Dolores has painted over the years because her character arc typically involved her painting each day by the canyon before she was murdered:
Still browsing around Reddit, co-creator and co-writer of Westworld Jonathan Nolan hopped into the comments of that image with a GIF, one that potentially foreshadows things to come:
What does this mean? We don’t know.
Where does this GIF take place? Aside from knowing that it takes place in a kitchen we really don’t know much.
When does this GIF take place? That remains to be seen.
Is there cause for alarm that one of the employees in a white HazMat suit is going through all of Dolores’ paintings? Possibly, again, we have no way of knowing.
I doubt that the co-creator of HBO’s Westworld would be foolish enough to leak a game-changing GIF on Reddit but then again this is one of the most cryptic shows I’ve ever watched, so it’s impossible to rule out any possibilities.
What do I think is happening here? A couple of possibilities 1) Dolores has been murdered like she always is and the HazMat crew is coming in to clean up and investigate or 2) some mechanism is activated and the puppeteers have lost track of the puppets, and must track them in person.
