Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was filling in as a guest DJ on SiriusXM’s new Beatles channel this week when he shared a Paul McCartney story for the ages.

According to Vedder, he and the Beatles legend were just chilling together in a Seattle hotel bar, as one does with Paul freaking McCartney, when Paul decided to regale Vedder with a story about how he once punched someone. (The someone was never revealed, sadly. I bet it was Ringo.)

As McCartney was telling his tale he apparently became a bit too animated and whoopsie-daisy cracked Vedder in the face…

He kind of was illustrating how he hit this guy and when he did that he kind of shot out his left arm as if he was hitting this guy and I was standing there, and I got hit. He hit me! He didn’t quite pull back the punch you see … As I was listening I was thinking, Paul McCartney just hit me in the face and it hurt. I think I remember tasting a bit of blood, he got me right on the side of [the face]. And he apologized quickly so it wouldn’t get in the way of the story. I remember it hurt for a few days and I remember when it went away and the pain subsided and the swelling went down, I kinda missed it.

“Paul McCartney just hit me in the face,” would be quite the revelation wouldn’t it?

That’s right up there with Gronk shredding air guitar with McCartney on stage at Fenway and Dave Grohl getting so high with the Beatle he forgot how to play the guitar as days you will never, ever forget.

Listen to Vedder tell the story himself below. It’s great.
