Bro King John Mayer Perfectly Avoided An Awkward Situation With Two Exes That Hate Each Other At Drake’s Birthday Party

Nothing more awkward than an encounter with an ex at a party. Nothing more awkward than an encounter with TWO exes at a party, especially if they hate each other. A true Bro knows how to peacefully navigate that awkward, nightmarish scenario. That’s what happened to John Mayer at Drake’s recent b-day bash and he handled it like a champ.

But before we get to the details, let me gush for a second about how Mayer needs to be celebrated these days.

I’ve said it a lot over the last couple months here at BroBible and I genuinely mean it — Mayer is one of the biggest Bros in the music game. His insane talent and profound love for the Grateful Dead and authentic American music makes him a #1 most chill human being on the planet in my book. Dude literally popped up at my birthday party the other week to surprise me and 800 other friendly faces by performing with my favorite Grateful Dead cover band, JRAD. I’ve been literally dancing to this guy playing guitar since 11th grade prom. Nothing but respect for him:

I can listen off the many reasons’s for Mayer’s Bro-ness: He gets his gay friends laid while wingmanning for them, he has one of the world’s wildest watch collections, he’s reuniting the John Mayer Trio to tour and release an album. Time to add another reason to the list: He knows how to keep his damn cool when his exes are around.

Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and John Mayer all crashed Drake’s lowkey birthday party at Delilah in Los Angeles. Remember: Katy Perry and Taylor Swift hate each other. They also both dated John Mayer, with Taylor Swift infamously (…and quite nastily, IMO) writing a song called “Dear John” in 2010, which Mayer said “humiliated” him.

“I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call,” Mayer told Rolling Stone. “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”

Anyway, the three were united at Drake’s b-day and Mayer put on a clinic of keeping his cool. According to E, he just straight-up avoided T-Swift, then hammed it up here and there with Perry. Smart man:

Perry and Mayer were on-again, off-again for a long time, but she has been dating Orlando Bloom for almost a year. A source tells E! News that Perry and Mayer “spoke throughout the night” very “peacefully.” Mayer and Swift, on the other hand, “didn’t cross paths” despite the fact that the party was an “intimate, mellow evening.” Other guests included French Montana, Jamie Foxx, Shay Mitchell and more. Guests sipped on Drake’s whiskey Virginia Black throughout the night.

“It was a very intimate party with just friends and family. Started around 9 p.m. and went until after 3 a.m. Drake came in just before 10 and was with a group of guy friends. When he came in he had a big smile and was really happy. He said hi to everyone and gave everyone hugs,” another source tells E! News. “People yelled, ‘The birthday boy is here.”

So how does such a night of celebrity non-drama end? Only in the most Arrested Development way possible. Cue the “Final Countdown” —

David Blaine put on a magic show after dinner, which consisted of a Carbone menu, E! News has learned.

Just when you were wondering whatever happened to David Blaine, BAM! Dude shows up as after-dinner talent for Drake’s b-day party.
