David Bowie’s Son Seemed Less Than Thrilled With Lady Gaga’s Tribute To His Late Father

In case you missed it, Lady Gaga performed a medley of David Bowie songs during Monday night’s Grammys. The range of responses to her performance were pretty much across the board with many heaping wild praise upon it while others thought it seemed more like something you’d see as a lounge act in Las Vegas.

Gaga performed several David Bowie songs including “Space Oddity,” “Suffragette City” and “Let’s Dance” all while dressed up in tribute to the late music icon. Many of those in attendance gave her a standing ovation, but not everyone who watched it was quite as thrilled.

One of those not standing and applauding at home was Duncan Jones, aka David Bowie’s son and the director of the upcoming Warcraft movie. Jones posted a tweet following Gaga’s performance and it appears that there was a little bit of shade being thrown her way.

“Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.’ Damn it! What IS that word!?” tweeted Jones.

That word he was searching for would be the Oxford English dictionary’s definition of the word “gaga.” Yikes.

The “mentally confused” part of the definition appears to be particularly damning of her performance.

As to why Jones would not have liked Gaga’s tribute there are a few possible explanations. (1) He just didn’t like it. (2) He didn’t think Gaga was the right person to be doing the tribute in the first place. Or (3) the fact that the whole thing was basically one big commercial for Intel, something the Grammys were not shy about promoting with a commercial airing immediately after the performance touting Intel’s involvement.

Heck, Intel even gets second billing for the performance on the official Grammys YouTube video of Gaga’s tribute to Bowie…

So what do you think? Was Gaga the right choice to salute one of the greatest rock icons of all time? Did she do him justice with her performance? Or do you think the Grammys should have chosen someone else to do the tribute?
