This Recently Unearthed Footage Of Kendrick Lamar Performing With Prince Is A Musical Masterpiece

Man, can you imagine what it would be like to see Kendrick Lamar and Prince together on the same stage? It sounds like a dream performance, right?

Well, imagine no more because it actually happened once back in 2014.

Here’s how it all went down, according to Esquire

During his To Pimp a Butterfly sessions, Kendrick Lamar spent some time in the studio recording with Prince at his legendary Minnesota headquarters. Though the recording sessions never made the cut for Lamar’s next two albums, he said last year that Prince—a “mysterious, mystique man”—gave him some unforgettable advice. “I really appreciate the actual game he was giving me,” Lamar said in a 2015 interview. “He took control of his music.” We may never hear what the two produced in those recording sessions, but, while Lamar was in Minnesota, the two played a Paisley Park show. Originally a Yahoo Music livestream, the only recorded video of Prince and Lamar together onstage was a brief teaser released in 2014.

Below is the entire clip, not just the teaser, which also features Prince’s band 3rdEyeGirl, and folks, it is as outstanding as one would expect it to be.
