I’m guessing that most of you bros are already familiar with paracord bracelets, but for those of you that aren’t let us take a quick look at what they are and why you should be wearing one. Paracord bracelets are survival bracelets woven out of 550 cord. Here ‘550’ refers to the cord having a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds, and the ‘para’ comes from the fact that 550 cord was used in soldier’s parachutes back in WWII. After a successful jump soldiers would then cut the 550 cord, wrap it up, and save it for later as a survival tool.

When woven together to form a bracelet the relatively thin (but EXTREMELY strong) paracord sits at about the same size as any other bracelet in the world. However, when that amazing 550 cord is unraveled you then have a pretty sizable amount of rope to work with in a survival situation, because the 550 cord itself is made up of 7 inner strands, and each of those 7 inner strands has 3 inner strands of its own (that’s A LOT of rope). That paracord can then be used for any number of survival-related tasks, including but not limited to: fishing, building shelter, setting traps, fashioning a splint, etc etc…
