Leaked Specs On New PlayStation, PS4K, Has A Codename Based On ‘The Matrix’

Last month, I informed you that Sony was working on a new and improved model of the PS4. At the time we knew that the PlayStation 4.5 would allow gamers to play in 4K. Now we have more details on the upgraded PlayStation.

Sources tell Giant Bomb that the new PlayStation has an internal Matrix-themed codename of “NEO.” Though a name has not been officially introduced, the popular name has been the PS4K or the PS4.5.

The new gaming console will have upgraded hardware, including “a higher clock speed than the original PS4, an improved GPU, and higher bandwidth on the memory.” Giant Bomb claims that games running in NEO mode will offer improved, more stable frame rates as well as higher fidelity visuals.

Sony does not want to split their gaming bases, and connect the PS4 and PS4.5 gamers. So there be no NEO-only games even on PSN. Sony allegedly forbids developers from creating exclusive gameplay options or special unlockables for NEO players.

Technically, there will be two types of PS4 games available; one for 4K and regular PS4. Starting in October, every new PS4 game must have a “base mode,” which would work on the older consoles, and a “NEO Mode” for the PS4K. Games released in the late September will require a day one patch that updates them to optima NEO standards.

No release date or price tag has been released yet, but speculation is that it will be available in October and will cost $399.

Yes please.
