You Can Now Own Tupac Shakur’s Prized Car, A Vehicle He Purchased Less Than A Month Before His Death

September 13th, 2016 will mark twenty years since rapper Tupac Shakur was killed by a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. Before we get to that anniversary though fans will have the opportunity to bid on and purchase Tupac’s prized car, a fully-loaded 1996 Hummer that he purchased less than one month before his murder. While the car is 20 years old and clearly outdated, it’s not about the antiquated features, this is about the opportunity to own a piece of history.

The 1996 Hummer last changed hands in a 2003 ‘Picture Me Rolling’ raffle by BET, and it is now being put on the auction block by RR Auction. Bidding on this unique vehicle will start at $100,000, and the auction begins on May 12th (closing on May 19th).

It’s hard to believe but this September will mark 20 years since the world lost rapper Tupac Shakur. I was wondering why Tupac’s prized car would be up for auction now, after all these years, but it makes sense now that I realize that we are coming up on the two decade anniversary of the rapper’s death. Some collector’s surely trying to cash in on they hype that’ll lead up to September 13th.

via RR Auction:

Research on the vehicle reveals that Shakur purchased the vehicle on August 16, 1996, a little less than a month before his untimely death, a revelation which comfortably attributes this Hummer H1 as the very last vehicle the rapper would purchase in his lifetime. Held in storage following Shakur’s tragic death, the Hummer was won in a 2003 raffle organized by BET in the ‘Picture Me Rollin’’ sweepstakes, and then later purchased back in 2007 by Havenotz Entertainment owners Sardar ‘Candyman 187’ Khan and Yaasmyn Fula, the latter being the mother of the aforementioned Kadafi, a ‘godbrother’ of Shakur who lost his own life just two months after that of his friend and fellow Outlawz rapper; the pair drove the Hummer often, cruising Los Angeles on late summer nights after time spent in the studio. Already a classic and coveted example of civilian off-road ingenuity, this modified vehicle is further elevated by its incredible musical affiliation and proximity to Shakur’s final days. An incredible piece of hip-hop history that evokes the invincible spirit of one of the rap game’s true lyrical giants.

TMZ.com reports that the Hummer is currently owned by a Canadian collector, and Tupac‘s prized car is expected to fetch well over $100,000 at auction.
