How to make Cheesy Bacon Bombs

Colin Joliat

Bacon wrapped anything will be a crowd pleaser, but bacon wrapped fried cheese is orgasmic. These Cheesy Bacon Bombs are easy to make and will have you looking like the greatest chef on Earth.

OK, maybe you won’t be the greatest chef on Earth, but your friends will certainly appreciate you mastery of hors d’oeuvres. It only takes some hot oil, a few skewers or toothpicks, and three ingredients – cheese, bacon, and crescent rolls – to create an incredible finger food. If you’ve never fried anything yourself, now’s the time to start. There’s no dredging, breading, or guessing involved. This was my first attempt, and it turned out almost perfectly.

My grocery store didn’t have pre-cubed mozzarella because they hate convenience, so I cubed it myself. Luckily I’m a master with the knife, at least insofar as I didn’t cut off my fingers. Wrap each piece of cheese in crescent roll dough, using as littler or as much as you like. I wanted to them to turn out light and fluffy so I used a thin layer.

Wrap the bacon around the outside and secure it with a skewer. You can use full slices and go ’round and ’round and ’round, or cut the bacon strip in half. My cheese cubes were undersized, so I just used half.

Heat a couple inches of oil in a pot. Drop a few bombs and watch the magic happen. Odds are the hot oil is going to attack your face, so don’t stand directly over it like an idiot. I’m not liable if you end up looking hideous because you burned your face.

Turn the bombs a few times throughout so they cook evenly, or you could just use the right amount of oil in the first place. When the bacon is fried to your preferred level of love, transfer them onto paper towel to drain. Immediately drop another batch and start cooking again.

You’re going to want to eat these hot, so it’s a tricky game of not overcrowding the pot while still making enough to satisfy the hoard of hungry friends. I found that four at a time was just fine.

That’s it. Cheesy Bacon Bombs really are that simple. If you’ve learned anything from the first few weeks since the Guyism Grill opened for business, it’s that cooking awesome food isn’t actually that difficult. The toughest part is usually trying to not eat something before you can arrange it on a plate to take a super artistic picture for Instagram.
