Is this the most embarrassing display of police work?

The history between the East Lansing Police Department and Michigan State University students is long and complicated, filled with riots, police brutality and general tomfoolery. Over the weekend, the ELPD poured gasoline on a potentially explosive situation with this Facebook posting.

The photo is a screencap from Saturday night’s game in Indianapolis. A game in which MSU defeated Ohio State to advance to the Rose Bowl. Their first since 1988. Students took to the streets of East Lansing to celebrate. Many of them burned couches.

In all, 15 arrests were made that night. But that wasn’t enough. The East Lansing Police Department wanted blood and offered up a $20k reward for information, including the identity of the person in that photo. Nevermind that person’s outside of their jurisdiction, nevermind it’s an innocent sign. Down with free speech!

Not surprisingly, they’re getting trolled epically on Facebook. Several students have weighed in, offering up fake names, names of celebs, names of people they simply don’t like.

” Pretty sure that’s Bronson Pinchot.”
“Burnadette Sofa.”
“Everyone up to this point is wrong. I know that guy personally. His name is Dick Beninya”
“Andy Samberg and the rest of Brooklyn99 cast would do better police work than this.”

Sadly and quite hilariously the post came down this morning. There were some real gems in there too. Internet gold. Oh well.
