Here’s the first real picture of the new Robocop
It’s not a good new Robocop. I don’t like this Robocop. My level of excitement for the upcoming Robocop remake has been dropping steadily for the last few months, most recently when the script was leaked and savaged by everybody that read it. Now some sneaky pictures have been taken from the Toronto set of star Joel Kinnaman walking around in the new costume and they’re pretty solidly disappointing.
ComingSoon.net has the scoop from the source with these two photos of Kinnaman in robo-costume. We already heard that the character would go through multiple looks in the movie, including one design that closely resembled the 1987 original, but the final look would be a streamlined, modern version. And for all intents and purposes, this is it: basically Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe.. He doesn’t look like a blasted-out cyborg. He looks like a dude in a Kevlar costume.
What do you think? Does this make you more or less hyped for the Robocop remake? The sad thing is, the movie has a pretty great cast – Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton as the villain. And I’m not a guy who wants remakes to be slavish imitations of the original film – if you think you can improve it, do it. This just isn’t an improvement to me in any way.
