How to pour a glass of wine without opening the bottle

If you like drinking by sorcery or names made up by an eight-year-old, you’ll love the The Coravin 1000 System. It can pour you a glass of wine without ever pulling the cork from the bottle.

This is a waste of money if you never drink anything better than Three Buck Chuck, but if you’ve gotten yourself a few decent bottles, this could come in handy. Wine almost immediately starts to go bad once it’s opened so you’re pretty much locked into a bottle. I’m sure you’re all real strong men and polish off bottles like it’s your job, but there’s no need to waste exceptional wine just because you’ve opened it. The non-opener is steep at $300, but it’s a grape saver if you have a lot of nice wine or knows someone who does.

When the Coravin System is put in place, a thin, hollow needle is inserted through the cork to extract the wine. You don’t need to remove the foil, or the cork, to access the wine. The bottle is then pressurized with argon, an inert gas that’s in the air we breathe. Once the bottle has been pressurized, the wine flows through the needle and pours into your glass. When the Coravin System and its needle are removed, the cork reseals itself. The remaining wine never comes in contact with oxygen, and continues to evolve naturally.
