Burger King rolling out new menu items, celebrities, and food trucks
Wendy’s recently surpassed Burger King as the 2nd largest U.S. burger chain, but the king isn’t going down without a fight. Their comeback trail begins with new menu items, celebrity spokespeople, and even food trucks.
The new menu items are being panned as a copy of many of the things McDonald’s has already done. While that appears to be fairly true, it’s not as if Ronald invented the orange mocha frappuccino (that was Zoolander) or the chicken strip. I’ll let you be the judge of how close they are:
Garden Fresh Salads: BLT, Apple and Cranberry or classic Caesar Salad varieties are made fresh-to-order, premium ingredients and topped with a choice of TENDERCRISP® or TENDERGRILL® chicken.
Chicken Snack Wraps: Honey Mustard Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap and the Ranch Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap are flavorful snack options with less than 400 calories each.
Real Fruit Smoothies: Tropical Mango and Strawberry Banana smoothies are made with low-fat yogurt, real fruit and juices, providing a full serving of fruit.
Frappés: Mocha and Caramel flavors are made-to-order with a hint of coffee and ice, topped with whipped topping and a swirl of fudge or caramel.
Crispy Chicken Strips: Premium Crispy Chicken Strips are made with white meat tenderloin chicken, marinated and lightly battered in seasoned home-style breading, served in three- or five-piece servings and perfect for dipping in one of our classic or bold new sauces, such as new Kung Pao and Roasted Jalapeño Barbecue sauces.
The BK Lounge is going to rely on celebrities such as Jay Leno, David Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Steven Tyler, Salma Hayek, and Sofia Vergara to promote their new and improved menu. Each has shot or will shoot a commercial for the king, but unfortunately they don’t currently allow embedding from YouTube. Big mistake, in my opinion. Who wouldn’t want to be looking at Salma Hayek instead of reading all these pesky words?
The most exciting part for me is that there are going to be Burger King food trucks rolling around the country dolling out free samples of the new items. If there are two things I love, culinarily speaking, it’s rolling restaurants and free food. You’ll able to track these moving artery cloggers on BK’s website starting April 18th. We can only hope they are shaped like a whopper.
These new menu items got me thinking about some of the old ones I love. I don’t know if they still make the rodeo burger, but that thing was delicious.
