Longer episodes! A production blog! Get in here! So there’s really no date I’m more excited for than March 31, 2013. That’s when the third season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones hits the air. The violent, insane, hilarious drama based on the novel series by George R.R. Martin is compulsively watchable television, filled with unforgettable characters and quotable lines. And, from what we’re hearing, there’s going to be a little bit more of it to love this season.

Entertainment Weekly has an interview with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss where they talk about adapting A Storm Of Swords, the longest of the novels. It’s so long that Season 3 is just half the book, Peter Jackson-style, but don’t fret: they’re working with HBO to make sure that nothing gets left out. In fact, the average episode length for this season looks to be five minutes more than the last one, and the season finale will be over an hour long. So basically we’re getting the equivalent of eleven episodes in the form of ten.

In addition, the official Game of Thrones YouTube channel has just dropped a new production vlog on the making of the show, which you can watch below. It’s pretty cool to see how they come up with all of the settings and props for the series (except when they use a George Bush head by accident and get into hella trouble.)

We’ve also had some casting news for the show, including Iwan Rheon from Misfits as Ramsay Snow and Ciaran Hinds as Mance Rayder, the “King Beyond The Wall” who is responsible for the Wildlings’ incursion to the South that threatens all of Westeros. Both awesome actors, but it’s not like the show ever hires bad ones.
