‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 episode 11 recap: ‘Aon Rud Persanta′

FX

Holy crap. Holy crap holy crap holy crap. I did not see this coming. If you haven’t watched this, there’s spoilers here. So the biggest criticism I’ve had of season 6 of Sons of Anarchy was that the show was sort of spinning its wheels – sure, Jax was getting SAMCRO out of the gun game and Tara was leaving, but nothing actually happened. Well, this week, something happened.

We open up with Tara waking up with the kids, still under the watch of Rat, who tells her not to take them to school. Jax gets the deal with the DA on paper and tells her when the drop will be. Tara meets with a new attorney and moves forward with the divorce, but he warns her that she might be called to the stand and Jax could use the fake miscarriage against her. But the big action was SAMCRO busting Clay out of jail to run the gun business with the Irish.

The gang assembled outside the prison and followed Clay’s transport vehicle, which only had one escort. Hopelessly outnumbered, the guards were overwhelmed and Clay was finally free. Bobby took two shots – one in the shoulder and one that apparently got soaked up by a bulletproof vest – but the cops ended up on the bad end of the deal. Clay was shocked to see Jax was the one busting him out, but that wouldn’t be his biggest shock today.

Meanwhile, the DA is realizing that the drop was a trick – her assembling the troops at the docks was just a way to take the heat off of Clay while they broke him out. Needless to say, she’s not going to be too happy about this.

Back at the meet, SAMCRO brought Clay to meet up with Galen and the other Irish contingent and travel back to Belfast. And then things got serious. Just as everyone was being buddy-buddy, Jax pulled a gun and shot Galen through the head, while Chibs and Tig did the same to their Irish counterparts. The question was now how they’d explain the body count.

With Clay. And his body. After Tara, Gemma and Nero showed up to treat Bobby’s wounds, Jax walked Clay back into the office and shot him through the neck, then pumped five bodies into his chest. Wow. We all knew that eventually one of the two would fall, but I didn’t see it coming like this. The crew arranged the crime scene to make it look like Galen and Clay had some kind of side deal going, and when it went south shots got fired and they had to put him down.

Connor doesn’t quite believe it, but Jax has a point – this is the only explanation that he can take back to Ireland that won’t make him look like a patsy. And he also has to do business with August Marks if they want to keep running guns, or else the Chinese are going to take over northern California. Say what you will about Jax, but he’s an awesome negotiator.

Jax scotching the deal with the DA means Tara’s deal is back on the table, and she gets promised witness protection under RICO if she can link the club to a federal crime. Say… breaking someone out of prison? She still has the bullet she took from Bobby, and it might be the one that brings SAMCRO down.

What did you think? Was that a fitting exit for Clay? Will Tara give Jax up, finally? Two episodes left this season, pals. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
