The NFL Playoffs Kick Off, a ‘Bitch Slap’ Gets Thrown, and ‘The Simpsons’ Turn 20 This Weekend

The NFL playoffs finally get underway this weekend, but there’s also a slew of new movies, the first new “SNL” of the year (with Sir Charles presiding), and the 20th Anniversary special for “The Simpsons” on tap.

Let’s start with movies. Have you seen “The Hurt Locker” yet? Earlier this week, we told you why it’s the best movie of 2009, and why you should drive as many as 50 miles to go see it if it’s playing anywhere near your home city. Click here to find out if it’s in your neck of the woods. So far our “Hurt Locker Counter” is up to 11. Check it out this weekend and let us know you’ve seen it. The goal is to reach 873 BroBible readers by the time the movie finally leaves theaters in the spring! (It’s out on DVD next week, by the way, and every DVD purchase or rental counts as well.)

Also on our radar this week is “Bitch Slap,” which is opening in limited release tonight. The flick’s PR folks have been bombarding us with images from the movie — a post-modern exploitation film inspired by the likes of “Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill” — and taking one look at the blood and b**bs in the press shots, we understand why. We’ve got lots more photos after the jump.

Also opening this weekend is “Youth in Revolt,” in which Michael Cera plays a lovestruck teenager who creates an alter ego for himself. It’s based off a bestselling book and has gotten strong reviews. It’s certainly a better option than “Leap Year,” which your girlfriend may try to drag you. Don’t let her! Avoid it at all costs. Go see “Youth in Revolt” instead or one of the other movies opening this weekend, or catch up on the Oscar favorites (read: go see “The Hurt Locker”).

And last but not least at the cineplex this weekend is “Daybreakers,” about what happens when a critical blood shortage hits a world of vampires. It stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Defoe, both of whom we like a lot, but another vampire movie? And isn’t “True Blood” all about synthetic blood, too? If a scary-ass f*cking movie about blood-suckers is up your alley, enjoy. If not, go see “The Hurt Locker.”
