Early Sunday morning in California, Bam Margera was arrested for DUI after approaching cops to talk to them. He saw the police had pulled over a motorist and then stopped to talk to the cops despite operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The Jackass star was arrested after police smelled the strong odor of booze. Margera paid the $15,000 bail and was released around 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Now, Bam will enter rehab following the embarrassing arrest according to his mom.

“He decided to go to rehab in LA so we’re putting that program into place,” Bam’s mom April told Page Six on Tuesday. “How long he stays is to be determined but he’ll want to keep that private.” Bam, who just had his first child on Dec. 22. with his wife Nicole Boyd, “now just wants to pick up the pieces and move forward for himself and for his family,” according to April.

April, who was a victim of so many of Bam’s intrusive jokes on Jackass, said her son “had a bad night” and “he’s embarrassed by it.” “He’s mad at himself for being stupid,” she said. She also revealed that Bam “feels a lot better.” “As parents we’re trying to step back right now and let this person that we trust and other trusted professionals take over,” she said.

“Don’t be so quick to judge other people,” Bam’s mom said. “Everybody has a different story and everybody is going through different things. It’s not an instant fix. He’s been seeing therapists. There are going to be hiccups when you’re battling addiction. You’re not going to be 100 percent successful the first time. He’s getting a handle and the upside of this thing. He’s learning as he goes.” Three months ago, the 38-year-old former reality TV star admitted to struggling with alcohol abuse and bulimia. However, he said that he had been sober, but he apparently fell off the wagon recently.

Let’s hope this is a true commitment by Bam to work through his current issues and not just a publicist-prescribed measure for P.R. damage control. Hopefully, Bam realizes the errors of driving drunk, the same kind of foolishness that killed his best friend Ryan Dunn in 2011. We’re hoping that Bam is able to get the help he needs and turn his life around.
