Is The Bushy Beard Dead? Is This The Summer Of The Beardstache?

Has the quintessential symbol of masculinity run it’s course? It seems that beards have spread from hipsters to millennial to even the mainstream in a very short span. However the bristly lack of grooming may have gotten too popular for some and now may be replaced for a new look, the beardstache.

There have been rumors of the demise of the beard for about a year now, but there has been no replacement for men who wanted a new look and still desired to rock facial hair.

Enter the beardstache.

In what seems like something dug out from a 19th century politician or lumberjack, the beardstache features a thick mustache coupled with a tight-cropped beard.

The new grooming trend has been embraced by male model Chris Millington, who ditched his beard for the beardstache.

“The time has come,” he announced on his Instagram that has nearly half a million followers. “Change is good,” Chris declared. “Embrace it.”

Irish model and Christian Grey himself, Fifty Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan sports the look.

It’s also more practical and comfortable for the hot summer, but still embracing your love of facial hair. You chop off all that bushy hair for a close cut that can breathe.

If the beardstache is the new trend, it still hurts the razor industry. Last week, market research company Mintel released data that sales of razors and blades were down 3 percent in 2014.

Some yuccies (Young Urban Creative) who have beard fatigue have shaved their skullet all together. Blogger and Wilhelmina model Joel Alexander, once had an epic beard, but has axed off his bristle.

“The big beard trend is over and done,” the 27-year-old declared.

I will pretty much welcome anything as long as it’s not the manbun.
