Clockwork Orange

An eye doctor found 27 contact lenses stuck in a woman’s eye. How did she not see this coming? Surgeons made the eye-opening discovery when the patient was being prepped for cataract surgery. The 67-year-old woman thought the irritation was simply because she had dry eyes due to old age.

The eye doctors found 17 lenses, before a further examination revealed that another 10 lenses were stuck in the eye. That’s not how you get 20/20 vision. The lenses resembled a “blueish mass” in the patient’s eye.

“It was such a large mass. All the 17 contact lenses were stuck together,” said Rupal Morjaria, a specialist trainee ophthalmologist, who assisted on the unbelievable eye situation. “We were really surprised that the patient didn’t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there.”

The woman said she had been wearing monthly disposable contact lenses for 35 years but did not attend regular appointments. She wasn’t even aware that she was missing the contacts.

But how? How do you not know that you have 27 contacts in your eye? How does this happen? How is this even possible? HOW?!?!

The eye-popping incident happened at the Solihull Hospital near Birmingham, England. The bizarre case occurred last November but was only just been reported in the British Medical Journal.

Because of the eye contact issue, her operation was postponed since there was an increased risk of developing endophthalmitis, inflammation of the interior of the eye.

“She was quite shocked. When she was seen two weeks after I removed the lenses she said her eyes felt a lot more comfortable,” Morjaria said.

This lady is like, “Is there anything in my eyes?”
