This is an ongoing situation. Details are still sketchy, and several news items could be flat-out wrong, but the Washington Post believes the shooting began around 8:20 a.m. in the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building. Witnesses described a scene where they were fired on by a gunman described as a “tall, dark-skinned man,” carrying was described as an assault rifle.
The Navy Yard is considered the ceremonial and administrative home of the U.S. Navy.
