The Internet Is Flipping Its Shit Over ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Star Ashley Benson’s ‘Offensive’ Halloween Costume

When Cecil the Lion was killed back in July it seemed like I was one of maybe 10 people who didn’t care. Am I against poaching? Of course, but I’m not going to get all indignant about a lion I never knew existed until it died over a cause that yes, I’m generally against but really do not care enough about to even donate $1 in the check-out line at the grocery store. In fact, I’d even go so far as to say that at least 80% of the people who were having meltdowns were in the same boat as me, but needed at least SOMETHING to bitch about as a form of “activism” (even though making memes and sharing Facebook posts is NOT activism, and if you think it is you’re deluded), leading them to freak out over Cecil the Lion.

Which brings us to Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson’s Halloween costume:
https://www.instagram.com/p/8gqfQrhEGB/Clearly, she is a lion. While she has edited her caption, the original text was ” Help! Can’t decide on my Halloween costume this year!” What do you guys thing of this Cecil the Lion costume? @Yandy #ThanksYandy #Halloweencostume.” And as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, people are flipping shit:

“”

But like…why? Why does anyone care? Guys it’s a lion costume. A lion. If the whole thing were drenched in blood and had an axe sticking out of its head I could see being offended, but the costume itself is pretty lame. Nice hood, looks comfy, but no one’s going to look at that and say “Oh, she’s that poached Cecil the Lion fella!” before they say “You’re…a lion. Cool dude.”

If anything, the “Sexy Cecil the Lion” costume just serves as a reminder as to what happened back in July. It’s now October — no one gives a shit about Cecil the Lion anymore, sorry. Actually, let me rephrase that — the majority of the people who were freaking out back in July do not give a shit anymore. Google “Cecil the Lion” and have the results span from September 1st to October 1st: it’s pretty lame. No outrage, no giant blazing headlines about a slain lion, just a few updates on Walter Palmer, the guy who shot and killed Cecil. For something that had the entire country whipped into a frenzy just a few months ago, that’s pretty tame.

Besides, 20% of the purchase price (varying from $118.95 to $149.94) gets donated to the World Wildlife Foundation. At minimum, that’s $23.79…have you donated that much to the WWF, let alone any wildlife charity? I doubt it.

If having some celebrity dress up in a Cecil Halloween costume bring more awareness to illegal poaching by pissing off the Internet, then by all means, bring on the sexy Cecil costumes.

People don’t seem to give a shit without ’em.
